Another Battle of the Bands

We keep getting invited to these and never win. We don't really care about winning but it also sucks to lose. Please come show support Nov 14th. The more people we get, the better chance we have of winning our night.

Updates and more updates

We have played a few shows since this blog was updated last. We finished our Battle of the Bands tour in a sense. Since then, we have been playing very frequently. Last month, we played The Loft at Ozz, followed the following couple weeks by Muse Music and finally last night was our CD release show at Velour Live.

We have been really busy trying to get the 5 song EP/CD released and now that it is, we don't know what to do with ourselves.

We have a few new songs that now we can work on and a lot of amazing shows coming up. Please come to one of our next few shows to hear some amazing music and help support us by buying a CD or a shirt.

Thanks again for the support and we hope to see you again soon.

Velour 06/20/08

We were able to return to Velour Live for a great show Friday night. We played with some amazing bands; Spiral Diary and After Midnight. We didn't have as many come out as we did for the Battle of the Bands but we still had a great time.

Since this video went to Youtube, the sound doesn't match up. I will try to fix it.

Better Than Winning?

What would be better than winning Battle of the Bands? Well, we just got a call from Velour Live's owner, Corey, and he is having a production company come through the club and he needed to fill a show on short notice on June 20th. He called us first to play and so we will be back at Velour next weekend to play a scheduled show with some headlining bands. We are very excited. Anyone who didn't make it out to our Battle show must come to our next show. We had so much fun at Velour, we know you will enjoy yourself and we promise to rock your socks off.

Thank you to all

Thanks to all who came out in support or voiced support in our playing the Battle of the Bands. We had a great turn out of over 50 people just for us. Thank you again. We unfortunatly did not win the night or the opportunity to play Saturday but we had an amazing time at an amazing venue and hope to play there soon with a longer than 25 min set list. Please to enjoy the pictures:

Battle of the Bands at VELOUR LIVE 06/11/08

We have been invited to play the ever exclusive summer Battle of the Bands at Velour Live. This is one of the coolest if not the coolest venues in Utah for local bands. We hope and plan to play here for a full show very soon. It again is all ages with absolutely no alcohol or smoking allowed so please come and help us make it to the finale. One band wins every night and we play Wednesday June 11th. If we win Wed, we get to play Saturday for a chance at winning it all.

Doors open at 8pm and it looks like we play second so we will be on around 8:30 or 9pm. Tickets are sold at the door for $5. Each person gets a voting card so make sure you come and vote for us. As always, contact us with questions.

Our newest show has just been confirmed. We are playing Studio 600 in Salt Lake on June 6th. Tickets are now being pre-sold for $8.00. We are not the only band playing so it will be a wonderful event for all people.

This will be our first show as our new band. If you have seen us before, you will note the new members Jonny on bass and Teresa rocking the vocal pipes. We will post information as it comes available.

Steel Days

We have been invited to play Battle of the Bands in American Fork for their annual Steel Days celebration. I am not sure what time we will play but the whole thing starts at 7pm on July 18th. We would love as much support as possible to help us play harder and possibly win. Leave a comment with any questions.

Recording Day

Every band wants a good demo. We have had some recordings floating around but with the change in band members, chemistry changed and so did the songs. We decided to try to record all of us together to see how it would sound. We put two mics down and recorded directly into a new computer we had. We found that the sound chemistry we were looking for came out in the recording. Even more impressive than that, we did each song in 1 or 2 takes and we were satisfied enough with them. We put these recordings on myspace and have some good responses. Now that we have a singer, we wanted a better professional demo so Steve, Jonny, and Will went to a little recording studio in the basement of a house and laid down about 5 songs in 2 hours. It was amazing. We were really tight and again only took 1 or 2 takes on each song. Creed, the sound guy, was very impressed. We should have some new demos up on myspace soon and a demo cd available for purchase. Below are some pictures of us recording.

We Are Complete

It has been way too long not playing shows. We had some great auditions but ultimately we wanted to start playing shows and recording. In our lap dropped a wonderful female vocalist who has the ability to write wonderful melodic lines and good lyrics. Teressa will be our "front man". We are scheduling shows and recording a really nice demo. Check back frequently for updates.

One Down

After many auditions, Steve and Will found someone they feel challenges them musically on bass. Jonny Berrett, a phenomenal bassist for most of his life walked into our audition and was everything we were not expecting. We felt so strongly about his playing and attitude, we asked him to be in the band shortly after the audition. He has agreed and now we are a power trio. We are still looking for a singer and hope to find them soon so we can record more music and play more shows.

Band Drama

As with all bands I suppose, there is drama. It seems that our band is no different. With the departure of Connor, I think everyone in the band asked themselves about the direction we should take the band. The ultimate decision came shortly after our denial for Battle of the Bands at BYU. Stephen felt that his vocals were lacking and to his credit and with much respect, he decided to bow out of the band if the other band members felt the same. Stephen had recorded some vocals and it was that recording that helped Steve and Will decide to audition some singers. We had a pretty good audition last night with a bass player and singer. Though the bass player is not what we are looking for, the singer seemed promising. We have another audition for a singer tonight and hope to have a new band soon. Keep checking back!!

Show Success

Thank you to everyone who came out to see us play at OZZ. We had a really good turn out and had a lot of fun. We love to play shows and love our fans showing support. We started Friday night trying out for Battle of the Bands at BYU. We followed some elevator music bands and a bass/drum combo band that sounded like Violent Femmes. When we got on stage, we set up our original equipment and they had a drum set for Will. He had to do a lot of tweaking to make it sound decent but it worked great. We had to play 3 songs. We rocked so hard and loud that people from the hallway were coming in to see us play. By the end of our set, we had about 15 people watching. The judges commented about how good we were and told us they would let us know by Wed. if we are in the show.
We went out to dinner as a band after that show and found out that Conner would like to keep playing with us until he goes on tour in April. After dinner, we caravaned to OZZ and unloaded our stuff. We were feeling pretty confident from the BYU show that we decided to play 7 songs instead of the 5 we originally thought. At show time, we again rocked the venue and had lots of people dancing in support.
If you didn't make this show, you have to be at the next one!!

Good and Bad News

As you can read from our history, Crossing Columbia has had its share of musicians come and go through the band. Just when we thought we had a complete band, Connor was hired on to a new band as the lead guitarist. We are very excited for him because this new band of his is getting a record deal in January and touring in April '08. We know of his talent on the bass and we also know he is far more talented on the guitar. We wish him the best of luck and hope to see him in the future.

Unfortunately for us, we have to find another bassist. Connor is going to play our show on the 30th but after that, we will be holding open auditions for bassists. If interested, please call 801-705-5132.
